A lighthouse is a place of historical importance to our generation. But few centuries ago it had a significant importance in the life of a sailor. Those were the days in which it took months to travel from one country to other and a lighthouse used to stand as a symbol of hope, for a sailor who is tired of his .It used to give them the hope of a pleasant shore .Personally I adore lighthouses for their stunning view.Lately I was thinking about the facts a believer have to learn from a lighthouse.
*It have a source of light inside that is reflected through a mirror.
*It is located high.
*It has a firm basement.
*it shines during night.
*It provides signal to the ships regarding possible danger and provides direction to the sailor.
*It requires a source of fuel that needs to be replenished continuously.
If we analyze closely we can find a close resemblance of a Christian in a light house.We are the bearers of the true light that came into this world. We become a functioning lighthouse only when,Jesus the light of the world , shines through us . The lighthouse does its duty when everything around is dark, and that’s the time when the external structure of the lighthouse disappears and the light that is inside is visible to those sailors who are in need.In our walk with Jesus, the character that resembles our identity in this world should disappear and the identity of Christ should shine through us. So that everyone who see us should see the love of Christ in us.Ephesians 5:9 “for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth”.
The lighthouse is visible to the ships that are far as its mounted on a tall structure.Witnessing for Christ , is not easy as it sounds. Lets not be ashamed of the salvation and hope Jesus gave us.As the Bible says, lets be like the candle kept on the stand so that it gives light to everyone in the house.
There are certain lighthouses washed by the sea, as they are located in the shore .In order for them to overcome the roaring waves, they require a solid basement. The trials that we face ,may make our footsteps tremble, but the stead fast hope in Christ through a deeper understanding in the word of God can make us stay steady. As the Apostle Paul says Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?Romans 8:35. If we have to face persecution for being a Christian where will we stand? Take some time to sit in the presence of God and meditate his words so that we have a deeper root in Christ to face the storm ahead.
If we have a vision to look around , there are many who are lost .Many who are trying to find an answer for their existence, trying to attain peace, security,healing from sickness,trying to find peace in relationship…etc. Lets be approachable; without false presumptions about another persons life. If Christ had remembered our infirmities what would have been our situation? We need to think this in a deeper sense. You and me have the responsibility to see the needy with the compassionate eyes of Christ and help them reach the shore of peace.
For the light to shine in a lighthouse it needs source of fuel. The daily anointing of the holy spirit should be the fuel for our soul. Titus 3:5 “he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit.” Let The Holy spirit help us to renew our hope in God, give us new visions each day, and make the light within us shine brighter each day.
Lets be a lighthouse for the glory of Christ in all its sense.
